Stay Active with the Senior Center

At this time, the Tallahassee Senior Center is temporarily closed. Fitness classes are being offered virtually on-demand, via the Tallahassee Senior Center Facebook page, WCOT TV (on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 9 am), and on-demand recorded links of classes at https://www.tallahasseeseniorfoundation.org/events-listing/.

Staying active is one of the most important things we can do to stay healthy and age successfully, and we realize you are missing your weekly in-person classes.

To help you access quality senior fitness, WCOT (Channel 13 on cable or Talgov.com/WCOT will now be airing four TSC classes with some of your favorite instructors. Fitness classes are provided by the City of Tallahassee Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Affairs and the Tallahassee Senior Center and Foundation.

UPSLIDE (Utilizing and Promoting Social Engagement for Loneliness, Isolation and Depression in the Elderly)
UPSLIDE Program Logo

UPSLIDE (Utilizing and Promoting Social Engagement for Loneliness, Isolation and Depression in the Elderly) Program - Help is available if you, or a friend, are feeling lonely or isolated? UPSLIDE serves people age 50 and older. At this time, UPSLIDE offers individual counseling by phone and video conferencing; virtual Friends Connection meetings allow social connection and support for participants; and a private Facebook page so that UPSLIDErs can stay in touch with each other. Email Melanie.Lachman@talgov.com or call 850-891-4066 for more information/assistance/individual counseling. Services are provided at no cost to participants, but donations accepted. UPSLIDE is sponsored by the Florida Blue Foundation and the Tallahassee Senior Center Foundation.

Mindful Movement

Tue., 11am-Noon, 2nd Floor Auditorium, a gentle NIA- and yoga-based class that focuses on increasing energy, reducing falls, and maintaining flexibility, taught by Lori Roberts, certified NIA yoga instructor.

Brain-Body-Balance
Mon., 1:30–2:30 p.m., 2nd Floor Auditorium, is an active-aging, fall prevention program specifically created to train and reverse many types of aging. Our philosophy fuses movement with neuroplasticity-enhancing drills to improve balance, the various functions of the brain, reflex skills, and improve daily life skills. Taught by Kathy Gilbert.

Chair Yoga
Fri., 11 a.m. – 12 p.m., is a gentle yoga workout for increased mobility, bladder control, self-esteem, and mental focus. Taught by Certified Yoga Instructor Bridget Welch.

Life Exercise
Tue. and Thu., 9:30–10:30 a.m., 2nd Floor Auditorium, is a very popular and dynamic workout consisting of aerobics, light weights, stretching, strengthening and balance exercises. This workout is suitable for everyone and you can participate seated. Taught by Pomeroy Brinkley.

Tai Chi
Wed. and Fri. 10–11 a.m. Taught by Tom Ewart, Taoist Tai Chi Society.

Zumba® Gold
Thu., 5:30–6:30 p.m., 2nd Floor Auditorium, $5 (50+) $7 others. Taught by Jacqueline Parra.

Yoga
Mon. and Wed., 5:30-7:00 p.m., taught by certified yoga instructor Pamela Hunter. Vigorous practice for adults including poses, relaxation, and mediation. Wear comfortable clothes and bring yoga mat (if you have one). Fee: $10 (50+), $12 others.

Dust off that old guitar and join an ongoing group of beginning-to-intermediate players. Come together, share songs and playing techniques. Beginners are welcome; limited instruction, so knowledge of a few chords is helpful. $2

Senior Singers
Tuesdays, 1 – 2pm
Join the choir & sing popular music from 1900-1906, patriotic music and religious music! Requirements include a love of singing and a desire to have fun.

Ukulele Beginning
1st & 3rd Friday of each month, 10-10:50 a.m.
This class provides information about the ukulele, and instruction on basic chords and strum patterns. Everyone is welcome! Bring your own uke!

Fingerstyle Ukulele Beginning Class
1st & 3rd Friday of each month, 11-11:50 a.m.
This class focuses on fingerstyle playing, as well as instrumental melody/chord arrangements. Also, basic music theory is taught as we play various pieces. Everyone is welcome, even if you think this level is too advanced for you. $2

Ukulele & Friends
2nd & 4th Friday of each month, 11-12 p.m.
Bring your instrument of choice and your voice. A casual gathering as we Sing For Our Lives. Learn songs for a peaceful planet. Versions of music that are ukulele friendly will be used though all instruments are welcome.

Adult Ballet
Thursdays, 10:45 – 11:45 a.m.
Learn basic ballet techniques, while experiencing the joy of expression and movement. No previous experience necessary! $2 (50+), $3 (others).

Beginning Ballroom and Swing Lessons
Fri., 5:30-7 p.m.
Dance lessons include Ballroom, Swing, the Fox Trot, Tango, Waltz, and Cha Cha. No partner needed. Meet people! Have fun! $5.

USA Ballroom Dance

Capital Twirlers Square Dance
Mon. at 7 p.m.

Contra Dance (Tallahassee Community Friends of Old Time Dance)

Jigs, reels, and all kinds of fun. Moves similar to square dance with a caller instructing each dance before the music begins. $10/adults, $9/seniors, $6/students, kids under 12 free. Lifelong Outdoor Pursuits
Lifelong Outdoor Pursuits

Are you 50 or older? Ready for new adventures? Do you enjoy being outdoors? Want to meet people with similar interests? Yes? Then this program is for you! Monthly programs feature workshops on specific outdoor skills, hands-on opportunities and field trips to outstanding local/regional destinations. Perfect for beginners or those who haven't tried a particular pursuit in a while. Enjoy hiking, biking, paddling, outdoor photography, fishing, camping, nature viewing, and geocaching. Visit springs, caverns, rivers, beaches, forests, and botanical gardens. The LifeLong Outdoor Pursuits program is offered by the Tallahassee Senior Center and sponsored in part by Leon County Government. Billiards

Mondays, Thursdays, & Fridays, 8:00am - 6:00pm
Tuesdays & Wednesdays, 8:00am – 9:00pm

Billiards is available for participants of all skill levels. Drop in to spend time with friends or meet new acquaintances.

Canasta

Mondays, 12:30 - 4:30pm and Thursdays, 12 (noon) - 4:00pm
All skill levels welcome. Lessons given, if needed.

Mahjongg

Tuesdays, 2:15 - 4:15pm
No matter what your skill level, you'll love this game of tiles in a competitive yet supportive environment.

Pickleball

Wednesdays, 11:30am - 4:00pm and Fridays, 11:30am - 1:30pm
Pickleball uses hard racquets, whiffle balls and the lower mini tennis nets, making it one of America's fastest growing sports. Staff will set up nets and provide balls. A challenge court will be established for competitive play. Lessons offered Wednesdays, 11:30am – noon. Times may be subject to change due to other activities.

Social Bingo

Fridays, 10:00 - 11:00am

Table Tennis

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:15 – 4:15pm
Casual, informal games. New players welcome. No pre-registration required.

Wii Bowling

Duplicate Bridge Clubs:

A friendly game

These games are for competitive bridge players. Games are played under the auspices of the American Contract Bridge League. A director runs the games in which two or more hands are played per round. At the end of the game, a computer prints out the results of how players did compared to other players, and computes the points won. These games are open to all players for a nominal fee to cover expenses. Interested players are invited to join the fun.
