Additional Information
An energy audit is one of the best ways to identify energy problems as well as opportunities to save energy, water and money. It can help you prioritize and focus your efforts. For some of the City's products & services, such as ceiling insulation grants, solar loans, and solar rebates, an energy audit is a necessary first step.
Here's how it works: An energy auditor from the City of Tallahassee Utilities will come to your home or business at a convenient time to examine the structure as well as energy and water systems. The energy auditor will check recent and past energy and water consumption records and inspect everything that affects your home energy and water usage: insulation, appliances, heating, cooling, filters, ductwork, doorways, water heaters, thermostat settings, windows, electronics, pumps, showerheads and more. The auditors will review their findings with you, diagnoses problems that may cause high operating costs and make recommendations for energy and water saving improvements. Typically, depending on the size of the premise, the audit will last from 45 minutes to 3 hours.
You can also conduct a do-it-yourself energy audit online. Log in to e+ Online to create an energy profile for your home and your family and view your historical usage on a monthly, weekly, daily or hourly basis. You'll also find up to 24 months of billing information, an energy- and water-related library and excellent information to help you save energy, water and money.
Please be advised that we will never call or come to your home to conduct an energy audit without a request from you. Additionally, we will not call you or come to your door and demand payment for services. If you request an energy audit from the City, you can always expect a courtesy phone call from our local, City operated call center, reminding you of an upcoming appointment. Upon arrival, the City representative will be driving a clearly-branded City vehicle, dressed in a uniform, have City branded identification and documents upon arrival.
If you receive a suspicious call or visit that you believe may be part of a scam, simply hang up or shut the door. You can contact the City of Tallahassee Utilities directly at 850-891-4968 to speak with a representative about your account, and you should contact the Tallahassee Police Department at 850-891-4200 to report the incident. This will allow the City to document the activity and continue working to protect our customers.
