TPD Solves a Series of Robberies Involving "Letgo"
March 16, 2018
After an extensive investigation by the Tallahassee Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit, one person has been arrested for a series of robberies occurring over the past several days. The robberies were associated with the online mobile marketplace, "Letgo". The incidents occurred on Deer Haven Lane on March 10, 2018 and 2001 Old St. Augustine Road on March 14, 2018. In the cases, the victims reported they arranged a meeting to sell items using the "Letgo" mobile application and three black males arrived at the locations to exchange items for money. Instead of an exchange of money for goods, the victims were robbed at gunpoint and the items offered for sale were stolen.
After reviewing all the evidence and employing hours of investigative research, TPD was able to develop information which eventually led to the arrest of one of the suspects, Lenardo Ellick Jr. A search warrant at Mr. Ellick's residence was served and more evidence was obtained in the case. During the investigation, two firearms, a 9mm handgun and a .22 caliber handgun in Mr. Ellick's possession, were seized. Due to the exhaustive work of the investigators, the Tallahassee Police Department was able to close the robbery cases.
Mr. Ellick was charged with two counts of Robbery with a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Florida Delinquent Adult, and Resisting Officers. Mr. Ellick was transported to the Leon County Detention Facility. TPD's Violent Crimes Investigators are continuing to follow up with the case and are asking anyone with information about the case and the other two suspects to please contact them at (850) 891-4200 or if they choose to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS.
The Tallahassee Police Department would like to remind our citizens to employ safety precautions when buying or selling items from online outlets such as "Letgo" or Craigslist. Insist on meeting in a public place, do not meet in a secluded area, do not invite strangers into your home and do not go into theirs, be cautious when buying or selling high value items, do not meet with a buyer or seller alone, and perform the transaction during daylight hours.
