Special Victims Unit Seeks Help Finding Possible Curtis Cooper Victims
August 07, 2017
The Tallahassee Police Special Victims Unit is asking for the public's help in identifying possible further victims in an investigation that led to the arrest of Curtis Cooper for sexual battery.
TPD investigators were made aware of the assault after one victim reported the incident to them on July 13, 2017. Mr. Cooper is the founder and Artistic Director of Community Based Ministries Incorporated (CBMI), which has partnered with local churches in Tallahassee to host faith based dance conferences.
TPD investigators fear there may be unidentified victims due to his access to the members of different organizations as the CBMI hosts different events in several locations around Florida, including Tallahassee. "Mr. Cooper was in a position which allowed for travel to and from different events, many times with hotel accommodations. We are concerned there may be other victims and are hoping to identify them and provide them with the resources they need to begin the healing process." said TPD Chief Michael DeLeo.
The probable cause affidavit for the arrest in this case is attached to this press release (PDF), although the investigation continues. The case has been assigned to a Special Victims Unit investigator who has access to additional means to ensure a thorough case is prepared and to assist other possible victims. TPD is asking anyone with information about this crime or who believes they were a victim to call (850) 891-4200 or CrimeStoppers at (850) 574-TIPS.
