September 12, 2018
Update: Based on recent changes in the projected track for Hurricane Florence, City of Tallahassee crews now plan to deploy to Jacksonville on Saturday morning, where they will convoy with other Florida-based mutual aid crews to Santee Cooper's staging site in South Carolina. As the City and Santee Cooper continue to monitor the storm's progression, plans will be adjusted accordingly with safety as the utmost priority.
City of Tallahassee electric crews will deploy to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to assist with the impacts of Hurricane Florence. Currently a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 130 mph, Florence is forecast to make landfall near the Carolinas and Virginia coast later this week.
City crews are expected to arrive by Thursday to provide mutual aid assistance to Santee Cooper, South Carolina’s state-owned water and electric utility.
With hurricane season hitting its height, the City of Tallahassee continues to closely monitor the local weather forecast. In the event of potential severe weather impacts to the Tallahassee area, crews will return home to respond to the needs of the local community.
