September 16, 2013
Don’t miss the chance to find out firsthand how the City of Tallahassee Utilities generates clean energy for our community. You’ll also learn about City services and find out more about what makes us a nationally recognized Energy Smart community.
This fun-filled family event will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13 at the Arvah B. Hopkins Power Plant. Recently upgraded and named one of the top six natural gas-fired “re-powering projects” in the world, the Hopkins Electric Generation Station is located three miles west of Capital Circle SW on Geddie Road, between highways 20 and 90.
The community-wide celebration will offer activities for all ages. Highlights will include plant tours, field demonstrations by electric line crews and firefighters, big trucks, helicopter displays, law enforcement units, information booths and refreshments. There will also be a short energy conservation play, performed by local high school students at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
For more than a century, Your Own Utilities has served local customers with reliable, affordable electricity. As a municipal utility, revenues help support vital City services such as our Best in America parks and recreation program and the high quality of life we’ve all come to expect. So bring the entire family to learn more about where your electricity comes from and why it’s so important to us now and in the future. Plenty of free onsite parking will be available.
NOTE: For ongoing security reasons, we ask that you please leave backpacks at home or in your car. Purses and other small packs will be searched at the gate.
