Joint Press Release: Property Crimes Task Force Makes Arrest Linked to Multiple Auto Burglaries
December 29, 2019
At approximately 2:08 am, TPD responded to a shooting near the 2500 block of Capstone Road. While on scene three additional vehicle burglaries were located near the 2500 block of Capstone Road, and 2500 block of Rosin Way. TPD investigators canvassed the neighborhood, looking for residential surveillance video and additional auto burglary victims. Suspect vehicles were identified and investigators connected their investigation to LCSO and Wakulla S.O. cases from the same evening. TPD learned that the Ford F250 used in the burglaries was reported stolen from the area of High Grove.
While canvassing various locations, members of LCSO patrol division spotted the stolen Ford F250. When patrol deputies initiated a traffic stop the suspects fled in the area of Ridge Road and Estates Road. Additional patrol units responded to assist.
Deputies made contact with several juveniles in the 3600 block of Estates Road. When contact was made, one juvenile dropped a bag and fled on foot. The juvenile was apprehended a short time later, near Slash Pine Drive. Inside the dropped bag was two hand guns and the keys to the Ford F250. One of the guns had been reported stolen. Deputies located the stolen truck on Spring Oaks Lane.
16-year-old Elvonte Sperdolutos was charged with Grand Theft of a Firearm, Grand Theft Auto, Carrying Concealed Firearm, Delinquent in Possession of Firearm, and Juvenile in Possession of a Firearm, with additional TPD charges pending.
“Thanks to our men and women of our Patrol Division, K-9 and Criminal Investigations for their great work in making a quick apprehension on a suspect and being aware of their surroundings. It was a great team effort by all and great communication between both TPD and LCSO,” said Sheriff Walt McNeil. Chief Steve Outlaw also added, “This demonstrates the dedication of our members to quickly respond, analyze, and associate the facts with other local crimes and suspects.
In this incident, the public was very forthcoming and instrumental in identifying those involved by quickly responding to our door-to-door and virtual canvassing with their observations and home video surveillance. While we can quickly solve crimes, we would rather come alongside our fellow citizens to prevent them. Before going to bed, please remember to double check the location of your keys and key fobs, and ensure your vehicles are locked. All firearms should be stored securely indoors at night.”
