TPD Arrests Man for Stealing Vehicle and Illegally Possessing a Firearm
August 16, 2018
Early this morning around 4:00 a.m., Tallahassee Police Department patrol officers responded to a call regarding the theft of a vehicle from a newspaper delivery employee. The victim was delivering newspapers and left his car running while he stepped out of the car for a moment which is all it took for the suspect to steal it. Because the vehicle would stop if the key fob was not nearby, it was then abandoned in the middle of Park Avenue and reacquired by the victim who then called TPD. Due to information provided by the victim, officers were able to locate the suspect walking near Park Avenue and Blair Stone Road. An extensive on-scene investigation was conducted and officers located a gun and ski mask where the suspect had been standing. Officers developed probable cause to arrest Howard Hanna for Grand Theft Motor Vehicle and Carrying a Concealed Firearm without a License.
The firearm was impounded at the Tallahassee Police Department as evidence. Mr. Hanna was transported to the Leon County Receiving Facility for processing. For further details, the probable cause affidavit is attached to this release and has been redacted in accordance with Florida Statute 119.071(2)(e).
