TPD's COPPS Unit Makes Gun and Drug Arrest

On Thursday, January 11, 2018 at approximately 8:32 p.m., TPD's Community Oriented and Problem Solving (COPPS) Officers were conducting proactive patrol to prevent criminal activity in the 2800 block of Sharer Road. Officers observed suspicious activity in a parking lot and illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia were seen inside a vehicle. An extensive on-scene investigation was conducted by officers resulting in the arrest of Curtis Hightower for drugs and firearms related offenses. During the officers' contact with Mr. Hightower, they located two loaded firearms, a 9mm and 25 caliber handgun, inside the vehicle.
Mr. Hightower is a Florida Convicted Felon and was arrested for the two firearms and drugs located in his possession. The firearms and drugs were impounded at the Tallahassee Police Department as evidence. Mr. Hightower was transported to the Leon County Receiving Facility for processing. For further details, the probable cause affidavit is attached to this release and has been redacted in accordance with Florida Statute 119.07(2)(e) and 119.071(5)(a).

- Possession of a Firearm by a Florida Convicted Felon pursuant to Florida Statute 790.23(1)(a).
- Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Sell within 1000 feet of a Place of Worship pursuant to Florida Statute 893.13(1)(e)2.
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia pursuant to Florida Statute 893.147(1).
