TFD Responds to Multi-Residential Structure Fire
March 06, 2023
On March 3, at 4:23 p.m., the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) was dispatched to a multi-residential structure fire located in the 2000 block of Continental Avenue. TFD crews arrived on scene to find a two-story apartment complex with smoke coming from the second story.
TFD personnel made entry into the apartment and found fire in the kitchen area on the second floor. TFD quickly made an aggressive attack on the fire.
A search was conducted, and nobody was found to be inside the apartment. One patient was assessed on scene for smoke inhalation.
TFD crews checked for fire extension into the adjoining apartments and were able to call the fire out at 4:37 p.m. One TFD firefighter was treated on scene for minor burns.
The cause of the fire appears to be from cooking.
TFD was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department, City of Tallahassee Utilities and Leon County EMS. The Red Cross was called to the scene to assist the residents.
Cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries. Smoke alarms can provide the early warning necessary to escape a deadly fire. A properly installed and maintained smoke alarm can alert you and your family to a fire 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Be sure to check your smoke alarms regularly to make sure they are working properly. Get more fire prevention information from TFD at Talgov.com/Fire.
