Precautionary Boil Water Notice
Precautionary Boil Water Notice for Apalachee Parkway from Executive Center Drive to Forest Tower Drive
Water service was interrupted this afternoon a result of a water main break due to a third party working in the area. Because of this, the City of Tallahassee’s water system also has experienced a loss of water pressure in your neighborhood. Water service to the 473 impacted customers is expected to be restored by early evening today, May 25, but a Precautionary Boil Water Notice has been issued to the impacted area (see map below).
Therefore, as a precaution, we advise that all water used for drinking, making ice, food preparation, brushing teeth, and washing dishes be boiled. A ROLLING BOIL OF ONE MINUTE IS SUFFICIENT. If you cannot boil your tap water, it can be disinfected by adding 8 drops of unscented household bleach (4% to 6% active ingredients) to each gallon of water, then mixing the water and allowing it to stand for a minimum period of 30 minutes. Note: Cloudy water requires 16 drops of bleach per gallon, mix well and allow a 30-minute contact time. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.
THIS PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ADVISORY WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CORRECTED AND A BACTERIOLOGICAL SURVEY SHOWS THAT THE WATER IS SAFE TO DRINK. When this occurs, you will receive a similar notice advising you that the water is safe to drink. Customers are notified via telephone (voice) and email/text from the City. Samples will be collected as required by Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Florida Department of Health.
We regret any inconvenience during this precautionary measure. If you have any questions, please call 850-891-1200 to speak to a representative of Water Operations.
What is a precautionary boil water notice?
A precautionary boil water notice may be issued in the event of a water main break, a loss of power or water pressure, or another emergency that may create the opportunity for contaminants to enter the pipes. The precautionary boil water notice does not mean that the water is contaminated; however, if you receive one, the City recommends – as a precaution – that you boil your tap water before consuming it.
