Ready for Takeoff: Updates and Announcements out of TLH, David Pollard, Director of Aviation
If you've flown through the Tallahassee International Airport lately, you've probably noticed a lot happening – updated TSA security scanners, renovations to the terminals, and even a new Dunkin' Donuts opening soon. But the most recent update might be the most important to local air travelers.
TSA firearm information from 2023
- In 2023 6,737 firearms were detected nationwide in carry-on bags. 93% were loaded.
- TLH had 13 loaded firearms at the checkpoint during CY23
- TLH had 10 improperly packaged firearms in Checked baggage during CY23
- Loaded Firearms at the Security Checkpoint Civil Penalty:
- $3,000 – $10,700 for first offense
- $10,700 – $14,950 for repeat offenses
- Unloaded Firearm at the Security Checkpoint Civil Penalty:
- Loaded Firearms in Checked Baggage Civil Penalty:
- Improperly Packaged or Undeclared Firearm in Checked Baggage Civil Penalty:
Suspend TSA PreCheck eligibility for 5 years if a firearm is discovered at the checkpoint.
Passengers will undergo additional screening if a firearm is detected during checkpoint screening.

Tallahassee International Airport's Annual Economic Impact Surges to $859M
Data recently released from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) reports Tallahassee International Airport's annual economic impact grew to $859 million, up 43 percent from $599 million in 2019.

New Screening Process
Tallahassee International Airport has new machinery to make the security screening process even simpler. Below are some of the changes you will likely see upon your arrival.
Remove all loose items from pockets and place inside your Carry-On Bag.
Keep all electronics and liquids inside your Carry-On Bags. 3-1-1 liquid quantity rules still apply.
Make sure Carry-On Bags are completely zipped when put in a tray.
Carry-On Bags must fit into the trays in order to be screened.
Place light items and shoes at the bottom of the trays—heavier items on top.

Meet David Pollard, director of the City of Tallahassee's Aviation Department
Pollard previously served as interim director and brings more than 27 years of experience in aviation to the permanent position, which provides administrative oversight of the Tallahassee International Airport (TLH). In addition to his aviation operation experience, Pollard served this country through 22 years of honorable active duty and reserve military service in the United States Marine Corps.
