City Service Changes for Labor Day Holiday
August 29, 2018
The City of Tallahassee's administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 3, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Following are schedule changes for the week of September 2-8 for solid waste customers living inside the Tallahassee city limits (blue week), StarMetro, the Animal Service Center and City-run community centers.
Solid Waste Schedule Changes
During the holiday week, all residential customers will receive service one day later than their regularly scheduled service. This includes garbage / recycling and yard waste / bulky pickup, which will impact blue week customers:
- Monday customers ► Tuesday, Sept. 4
- Tuesday customers ► Wednesday, Sept. 5
- Wednesday customers ► Thursday, Sept. 6
- Thursday customers ► Friday, Sept. 7
- Friday customers ► Saturday, Sept. 8
In the fall, many utility customers spruce up their lawns, resulting in piles of yard debris left curbside for collection. Yard debris refers to vegetative fragments like tree trimmings, grass clippings, pine straw and leaves. Residential yard debris is collected at the curb in front of each residence every other week, per the Red/Blue Week schedule.
When disposing of yard debris, place it within three feet of the curb and away from any low-hanging wires, trees or other obstacles, such as mailboxes, fences, etc. Clippings and pine straw may be placed in bags or boxes. For shrubs and limbs, make one pile per household that is no larger than 6 feet long, 4 feet wide and 4 feet high. The maximum size for limbs is 6 feet long and 4 inches in diameter. Separate yard waste piles from any bulky items set out for pickup.
Garbage and recycling containers should both be rolled to the curb for pickup by 6:30 a.m. on collection day, with both containers returned to the home no later than the day after collection. For more information, visit Talgov.com/YOU or call 891-4968.

StarMetro, the City's mass transit system, will change its operations for the holiday. On Monday, Sept. 3, fixed routes will operate on a Sunday schedule with no night service. Community Transportation Services will also operate a Sunday schedule. There will be no Dial-A-Ride service.
