Pensacola Stormwater Improvements to Increase Capacity
Construction to Impact Traffic Beginning on Monday
July 14, 2017
Starting Monday, July 17, stormwater improvements along Pensacola Street near Varsity Drive will cause ongoing road and lane closures in the area. This work is part of improvements being made to create greater stormwater capacity for future developments and alleviate localized flooding that currently occurs during heavy rain events.
During construction, there will be deep trenches in the work zone as upgraded pipes are installed. The project is expected to last through August, and for its duration, eastbound Pensacola Street between Champions Way / Chieftan Way and Varsity Drive will be completely closed.
For up to the first three days of work, southbound Varsity Drive will be reduced to one lane south of the intersection with Pensacola Street.
As work progresses through the intersection, southbound traffic on Varsity Drive will be detoured west on Pensacola Street, south on Champions Way and east on St. Augustine Street to reconnect with Varsity Drive. Westbound traffic on Pensacola Street will be routed straight through the intersection onto the afore mentioned detour route. Once crews are done with work on the west side of the intersection, southbound traffic on Varsity Drive will resume, and both northbound lanes will be closed and detoured at St. Augustine Street. Work in the intersection is expected to take two to three days.
Following work in the intersection and for the remainder of the project, westbound Pensacola Street will be reduced to one travel lane from Woodward Avenue to Varsity Drive. The bike lane will remain open.
