TFD Responds to Residential Structure Fire on Lake Atkinson Drive
July 01, 2026
At approximately 4:12 a.m. on July 1, the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire on Lake Atkinson Drive. While en route, responding units were advised that the structure was fully involved. Firefighters arrived to find a heavily involved, single-story wood frame mobile home with fire throughout most of the structure. Crews quickly initiated fire suppression operations while conducting a primary and secondary search, confirming no occupants or pets were inside.
The fire was brought under control within approximately 30 minutes. Crews remained on scene to complete salvage and overhaul operations and extinguish hot spots. The fire destroyed most of the structure, with only the main bedroom and an attached addition remaining standing.
The fire is believed to be accidental after a backyard fire spread to the residence. No injuries were reported.
TFD was assisted on scene by the Lake Talquin Volunteer Fire Department, Leon County Sheriff's Office, Leon County EMS and Talquin Electric Cooperative.
TFD reminds residents to always fully extinguish outdoor fires and never leave them unattended. Use water, stir the ashes and ensure everything is cool to the touch before leaving the area. Even a small fire can quickly spread to nearby vegetation or structures. For more fire safety tips, follow TFD on social media or visit Talgov.com/Fire.
