City of Tallahassee Provides Aid Following Hurricane Ian

Following the devastating impacts from Hurricane Ian to fellow Floridians, City of Tallahassee crews are deploying to provide aid for communities to the south.

The Tallahassee Fire Department's Urban Search and Rescue team has been activated by the State of Florida to aid in operations along the west coast. A team of 25 has deployed to the Lee County area and is prepared to move where needed as directed by the State. Additionally, other TFD members have deployed to assist with State Emergency Operations Center activities and drone needs.

Answering the call for mutual aid, City electric crews have deployed to assist Orlando Utilities (OUC). The electric deployment includes a crew of 21 team members and a variety of trucks and machinery.

City deployment teams are supported by embedded members of the Fleet Department.

The Tallahassee International Airport is prepared to support any emergency management requests from federal, state and/or local authorities. Airport staff are coordinating with the State of Florida Emergency Operations Center, and multiple semi-trucks loaded with supplies and equipment, as well as some aircraft, have staged at the airport in preparation for a response to areas impacted by the storm.

"We stand with our neighbors to the south. Our highly skilled crews will perform rescue operations and rebuild electric infrastructure. Through it all, they will demonstrate the professionalism and heart that Tallahassee is known for. To our fellow Floridians, stay strong. Help is on the way," Mayor John Dailey said.

Other City resources, including police, underground utilities and additional electric crews, stand ready to deploy if requested.
