Water Module Replacement Project
Project Overview
The City's AMI metering vendor, Honeywell, is providing a supervised crew of technicians to perform warranty replacement of water meter modules throughout the City's service area. A module's function is to communicate meter reads from a water meter to the AMI system. This function is currently being done manually while non-communicating modules are being replaced. This replacement project is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2019.
Frequently Asked Questions
- What work is being done?
The City & its vendor are replacing non-responsive communications modules on customers' water meters to ensure that the modules reliably communicate with our system.
- Why is this being done?
The updated module will provide more reliable communication with our system, so the City will not have to visit the customer's home every month to visually read the water meter.
- Is there anything wrong with my meter?
No, this just updates the older communication module functionality.
- What about my electric or gas meter?
This update only applies to the older communication modules for water meters.
- How long will the upgrade take?
Typically, around 15 to 30 minutes.
- What is the effect or impact to the customer?
There is no impact or disruption to utility service, and there is no cost to the customer.
- What is the typical process when staff arrives at a customer's home?
Staff will safely park the vehicle, put out cones, assess the area for safety, locate the meter pit, and take a photo of the work site before any work is done. If the meter doesn't have immediate access, then we will try to contact the owner. If a customer approaches, staff will identify themselves and their purpose.
- Who is performing the work?
Authorized contractors working for the City will install the upgraded communication modules on water meters.
- What contractor/company is doing the work?
Honeywell will be supplying the materials and managing the water module replacement project.
- How will the contractors be identified?
They will have Honeywell shirts and vests. They will also be provided a Honeywell hat, but they aren't required to wear a hat. Additionally, they will have Honeywell ID badges.

- What type of vehicles will the contractor be using, and how will they be identified?
They will be in white Ford Transits with Honeywell branding. Initially, they will be in rental cars until the new vehicles arrive. The vehicle will also have a magnetic sign.

- During what hours would a technician be in my yard?
The field employees will be working between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Currently, field employees will work the same holiday schedule as the City of Tallahassee.
