Illegal Drug Sale Leads to Arrest
February 17, 2021
To enhance public safety and the quality of life enjoyed by residents, the Tallahassee Police Department is committed to addressing illegal drug activity in the community.
On Feb. 12, the Tallahassee Police Department was conducting an investigation when a street-level narcotics sale was observed in the 1600 block of Capital Circle Northwest.
Officers with TPD's Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving Squad attempted to initiate a traffic stop on both vehicles involved, when one of vehicles fled at a high rate of speed. The vehicle's driver was later identified as the suspect in this case.
On Feb. 16, members of TPD's Special Investigations Section located the suspect and the vehicle. Probable cause was developed, and the suspect was taken into custody. When officers went to effect the arrest, a 9mm handgun fell from the suspect's clothing.
Once in custody, the arrestee was found to have close to 10 grams of Alpha-PVP and more than $300 in cash. Additionally, close to half a gram of Alpha-PVP, 1.2 grams of crack cocaine, a digital scale and numerous baggies for packaging narcotics were located in the vehicle.
Illegal drug activity has negative impacts for the community. Residents can help by reporting this type of activity by calling TPD at 850-891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at 850-574-TIPS. Below are five indicators that illegal drug activity may be occurring at a location:
- Excessive foot traffic to and from a house or property.
- Loitering in or around a house.
- Frequent and unusual traffic patterns such as: stop - enter - leave.
- Graffiti on structures in the area.
- Sudden increase in criminal activity.
