TPD Announces Youth Citizens' Police Academy 2017

The Tallahassee Police Department announces the 2017 Youth Citizens’ Police Academy (YCPA). Tallahassee Police Department will host its YCPA from June 27, 2017 until August 8, 2017. The YCPA is a program designed for teenagers ages 13-17 to learn more about the inner-workings of TPD while participating in several police related activities. There are no costs to the participants.
YCPA class members will receive information, instruction, and demonstrations in police use of force, traffic issues, and patrol operations just to name a few. The class will receive presentations from K-9, Special Operations, Criminal Investigations, Forensics, and much more. Class members will have the opportunity to observe a Tactical Apprehension and Control Team and weapons demonstration during the program. Classes will be primarily one Tuesday evening a week from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Between the ages 13 to 17 at start of program
- Minimum of a 2.0 Grade Point Average
- Leon County or Surrounding Area Resident
- Meet Background and School Discipline Check Criteria
- Willing to participate all 6 weeks of the program
