Recent Updates
The Florida Department of Health in Leon County (DOH-Leon) in partnership with the Florida Department of Health and the Florida Division of Emergency Management continues working to provide our community with COVID-19 vaccinations in a safe and efficient manner. The information below contains some of the latest updates.
DOH-Leon Vaccination Program Details as of Tuesday, January 13
- We have had seven DOH-Leon sponsored vaccination clinics.
- We have successfully administered 3,806 vaccines through our health department to date.
- Appointments are mandatory, and a photo ID is required.
- Our actions are in response to the Governor’s executive order making it clear that the state of Florida is prioritizing seniors 65 and older, in addition to front line health care workers and residents of long-term care and assisted living facilities.
The Health Department received a new shipment of COVID-19 vaccine this week.
- The department’s vaccine team has been supplied with 4,500 doses of the Moderna vaccine.
- The health department will redistribute some of the doses to enrolled provider partners to support vaccination of health care workers and individuals 65 and older.
Leon County Emergency Management successfully leveraged its emergency alert technology to help the health department reach thousands who registered for the COVID-19 vaccine.
- Mass notifications began last Friday, January 8 and when completed, some 19,000 people received text messages.
- 12,500 individuals confirmed receipt of the notification that their registration had been received by the Department of Health, and that they would be contacted in the future by phone or email to schedule an appointment.
Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare, Capital Regional Medical Center, Florida State University, Federally Qualified Health Centers, and some physician’s offices are now administering the vaccine to eligible patients as vaccine supply becomes available.
The DOH-Leon leadership team is in talks with Tallahassee Memorial Hospital to participate in a weekly Zoom Talk on COVID-19 vaccine efforts. This virtual event would collectively bring together local community experts, including our Health Officer Claudia Blackburn, to provide updates on the impact of COVID-19 in our community.
The Leon County vaccine team wants to hear from clients who might not have been given a second appointment or may have forgotten the date. At this time, they can send an email to LeonCHD.Feed-back@flhealth.gov . Type “second dose” in the subject line. In the body of the email, put your name, date of first dose and brand of the vaccine. Clients will be emailed an appointment for the second dose.
All our vaccination clinics are now operating from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Clinics are still tentative based on vaccine supply and could change. Clinics by appointment only are at our Municipal Way Administration Building, but weather and cold temperatures could change the location:
