Southwood Golf Cart Permits

In accordance with Section 316.212, Florida Statutes, the City of Tallahassee has designated certain streets in the Southwood Planned Unit Development to allow for use by golf carts. The City of Tallahassee Code of General Ordinances, Section 20-176, provides that golf carts may be used on all streets and alleys within the Southwood Planned Unit Development EXCEPT the following streets and trails where the use of golf carts is expressly prohibited:


As required by City of Tallahassee Code of General Ordinances, Chapter 20, Article VI, all golf carts operating on the designated streets must be registered with the City's Revenue Division and display a current registration decal at all times.

Registrations\Decals

The owner of the golf cart must complete an application and pay an annual fee (currently $50.00) to obtain the required registration decal from the City. Each application requires and will not be accepted without completion of all the following:

• Inspection Form

1. Each golf cart must successfully pass a safety inspection conducted by a qualified golf card vendor. (Businesses desiring to be considered/listed as approved inspection providers must prove that a primary activity consists of sales and repair of Golf Carts. To be listed, please contact the City's Revenue Division at 891–6488.)

2. Contact one of the vendors listed below to schedule an appointment:

  • Battery Source, 877–4440 or
  • Bellamy's Outdoor Sports, 926–8888 or
  • Strickland's Golf Carts, 877–4280

3. Once the golf cart has passed inspection and the applicant has paid the vendor's inspection fee, the applicant will be given an approved Inspection Form.

Hold Harmless Agreement (PDF)

The Defense Release, Indemnity and Hold Harmless Agreement must be signed by the golf cart owner (applicant for the registration) and notarized. This form can be notarized at no cost by City staff (with applicant's driver's license as identification) when purchasing the decal in person. The applicant's driver's license number must match the license number on the Application. Upon City acceptance and approval of the complete application, will complete the Permit Number.

It is the responsibility of each owner\applicant to insure that the golf cart is operated only on designated streets and in accordance with the City's Code of General Ordinances Chapter 20 Article VI.
