StarMetro recently won several prestigious awards, recognizing the organization’s success in the community and contribution to the transit industry.
StarMetro received three statewide marketing awards from the Florida Public Transportation Association (FPTA), as well as a Partner of the Year award from RESPECT of Florida. In addition, Kenneth Smith was named 2013 Bus Mechanic of the Year by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and Brian Waterman, Transit Planning Manager, was named as one of the Top 40 Under 40 by Mass Transit magazine.
“These awards and acknowledgments are a reflection of the exemplary skills and dedication of the entire StarMetro team,” said Mayor John Marks. “We can be proud of these accomplishments as we continue to focus on providing high level customer service and meeting the transit needs of our community.”
At its annual conference, FPTA recognized StarMetro for its Buzz So Big, We Can’t Hide It campaign, which promoted the launch of its all-electric, fast-charging bus fleet. The campaign won first place in the “Signage and Graphics” category, second place in the “Special Events and Campaigns” category and second place in the “Online Communications and Social Media” category. Due to the robust nature of the large-scale campaign, it also earned the coveted “Best of the Best” award, which honors the top overall marketing efforts in the state for 2013. Entries were judged on innovation, production quality and overall effectiveness.
StarMetro was also awarded the 2013 Partner Award from RESPECT of Florida, which honors agencies that have partnered with RESPECT to help preserve the dignity and independence of citizens with disabilities. Over the past 13 years, StarMetro has employed many disabled citizens through RESPECT who clean and refuel buses, empty fare boxes and to provide other light maintenance work.
