APTA estimates that transit usage in America saves 1.4 billion gallons of gasoline annually, or about 3.9 million gallons a day. Additionally, while the transportation sector accounts for about 32% of all carbon dioxide emissions (a critical greenhouse gas) buses only contribute around 1.38% of those emissions according to Carnegie Mellon University.
