Important Information - Please read

If you cancel coverage: Retirees with the City of Tallahassee are allowed to continue their optional insurance coverage with Conseco, CNA, CompBenefits, and MetLife after retirement, provided they were enrolled when they retired. Please be aware that if you decide to cancel an existing policy, you will not be allowed to join in the future.

Coverage Changes: Please note a retiree may only continue the optional benefits they were enrolled in and approved for at Retirement. (Exceptions: Unum, Accidental Death and the Health Care Spending Account are not continued at Retirement) Retiree may only continue the coverage level they were enrolled in at retirement; therefore they cannot add dependents or increase the amount of coverage for their optional benefits after Retirement. A Retiree may drop a dependent or decrease the amount of their benefit, however, these changes are permanent and cannot be undone at later date.

Taxable Premiums: In case you are not aware, once you leave the City, insurance preminums deducted from monthly pension payments are taxable and as such will be included in the amount on which Federal Income Tax Witholding is calculated.

If you have a dependent: on a policy who has reached the age in they which they are no longer eligibel for coverage, it is your responsibility to notify the Retirement Office.

Note: You have the option during open enrollment to switch between the different dental plans offered by CompBenefits. In addition, dependents may be taken off the plan you are on, but cannot be added.

If you cancel coverage: Once coverage is cancelled, you may not "re-enroll" in any policy in which coverage is provided through the City.
