Facebook Post Leads to Arrest by Auto Crimes Task Force
June 28, 2017
The Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County Sheriff’s Department arrested a 14-year old in conjunction with a vehicle burglary occurring the night of June 20, 2017. Items stolen from the vehicle included Louis Vuitton bags with tags still attached, a belt, and several more objects. The burglary was reported to law enforcement and assigned to the Auto Crimes Task Force, a joint task force utilizing TPD investigators and LCSO detectives working together to investigate the numerous crimes involving vehicles in our community.
On June 25, 2017, the juvenile suspect posted items matching the ones reported stolen on a Facebook page listing them for sale. In the post, the suspect held the Louis Vuitton items in his hands while wearing the belt.
Due to collaborative efforts by the newly formed Auto Crimes Task Force, investigators were able to recover one of the items stolen from the vehicle at the suspect’s home and return them to the owner. The suspect was charged with Grand Theft and Dealing in Stolen Property and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
