Police Involved in Standoff at Forsyth Park Circle Home
June 27, 2017
At approximately 6pm on June 26, 2017 the Tallahassee Police Department received a call from the Florida State Police Department after a student walked into their police station and stated his stepfather was threatening to harm him, his mother and himself. The stepfather, later identified as Michael D. Lloyd, had access to guns, including rifles and was reportedly at his house on Forsythe Park Circle. TPD patrol officers immediately went to Mr. Lloyd's home at 4023 Forsythe Park Circle and attempted to make contact with him.
In an attempt to resolve the situation, a Tallahassee Police supervisor made contact with Mr. Lloyd by phone, asking him to step outside the home and provide his version of the events which unfolded earlier in the day. Mr. Lloyd briefly spoke with the supervisor and confirmed he had access to rifles. He ultimately refused to come outside and ended the phone call after making several threats to harm any officers who came inside the home and nearby residents. TPD officers immediately began evacuating surrounding homes that could be struck by possible rifle rounds. With the safety of neighborhood residents the top priority, evacuees were taken to a safe location during the incident.
Due to the threats of violence by Mr. Lloyd, the decision was made to call in the Tactical Apprehension and Control (TAC) Team, who have specially trained negotiators and weapons. The TAC Team attempted to make contact with anyone inside the home for several hours before entering the home and locating Mr. Lloyd deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The case has been assigned to Investigators with TPD's Violent Crimes Unit for a full follow up. At this time they are interviewing all known witnesses and processing the evidence gathered on scene. Investigators are asking anyone with information about this case to please call them at (850) 891-4200 or CrimeStoppers at (850) 574-TIPS.
Deceased: Michael D. Lloyd, Hispanic Male, 07/29/63
