Concerned Citizen Call Leads to Arrests

Tallahassee Police Officers responded to a disturbance involving several people at 2415 Jackson Bluff Road on November 18, 2017 at approximately 5:05 p.m. Officers determined Dietrich Haynes was involved in an argument with two people, pointed a firearm at one of the victims and left the area. A few minutes later, several citizens called the Consolidated Dispatch Agency to report a suspicious male, matching Mr. Haynes' description, in their neighborhood which was in close proximity to the incident location on Jackson Bluff Road. Another male, later identified as Omega Jefferson, arrived in a vehicle to assist Mr. Haynes.
Officers quickly located the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled from officers. A short vehicle pursuit ensued and officers performed a P.I.T. (Precision Intervention Technique) to safely stop the vehicle. Dietrich Haynes and Omega Jefferson were arrested in the vehicle. A stolen handgun was located in Mr. Jefferson's vehicle. Another handgun, a loaded 9mm, was located by officers in the area citizens reported Haynes was walking after the altercation on Jackson Bluff Road. Both firearms were impounded as evidence.
Due to the quick actions of officers in the area, no one was hurt during the vehicle pursuit and two people were arrested for firearms related charges and other offenses. TPD would like to extend thanks to the alert citizens who called the police to report the suspicious activity. This information enabled officers to quickly make arrests and seize the firearms. For further details, the probable cause affidavits are attached to this release and have been redacted in accordance with Florida Statute 119.07(2)(e) & 119.071(5)(a).
