BikeTallahassee.com is a bicycle/pedestrian web site designed to further foster an environment of connectivity and safe multi-modal transportation throughout the community. The site includes an interactive map of all bicycle and pedestrian facilities in the City of Tallahassee and Leon County.

The FAMU Way Extension project will incorporate the construction of a shared use path along the new roadway. This trail facility will connect the St. Marks Trail to Florida A&M University, Florida State University, Gaines Street , and provide much-needed connections to pedestrian and cycling facilities within the Tallahassee urban area.

Connections through the downtown areas will be improved following the completion of the Cascade Park trails.

Further improvements to the mountain bike trail system are being prepared in Tom Brown Park, including building Magnolia Trail and making improvements to upper Cadillac Trail.

Tallahassee- Leon County Proposed Bicycle Route Network

Tallahassee and Leon County residents are fortunate to be surrounded by a beautiful natural environment that encourages alternative transportation choices for both daily travel needs and also recreational enjoyment. Many of the region's most beautiful trails, including the St. Marks Trail, the Georgia-Florida-Alabama Trail and the Apalachicola National Forest trails are just a short ride away.

This contributes to the popularity and sustainability of our local bicycle culture. Recently, the City of Tallahassee was recognized by the League of American Bicyclists' and honored as a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community for a mixture of policy, infrastructure and planning efforts in relation to bicycling within the community.

However, the City has realized that one of the missing pieces in our bicycle network is a cycling route structure that provides access to the central City area and many of the County's urban destinations. In an effort to establish a well-connected, user-friendly bicycle network, the City of Tallahassee and Leon County are working with local cycling groups including the Capital City Cyclists to identify potential bicycle routes and connections to existing cycling facilities with the goal of adopting and designating a comprehensive bicycle network throughout the urban areas of Leon County.

As part of the Moving Tallahassee: Cars Optional initiative, development of a bicycle route network within the Mobility District is picking up speed. Below is a map of proposed bicycle routes within the Mobility District. These proposed routes incorporate the recommendations of local cycling groups and community members. Over time, approved bicycle routes would be designated with signs and pavement markings.

The above map will open as an interactive PDF - click on map above and then on the route numbers to view maps of each route, including information on connecting bicycle and transit routes! On the individual route maps, click on the links in the box in the top right-hand corner to view maps of connecting bicycle routes, route connectors and even check the StarMetro transit schedule for each route!

Currently, the proposed routes are undergoing ridership testing by members of the Capital City Cyclist club, and the City of Tallahassee encourages feedback on the proposed routes and bicycle network. Please e-mail us at: movingtallahassee@talgov.com and let us know about your experiences along segments of the proposed routes and any thoughts regarding the proposed bicycle route network. Please note that proposed bicycle routes have not yet been approved and will only be adopted as part of the designated bicycle route network pending test rides and community feedback.
Information About the Proposed Bicycle Route Network:

Roadways identified as proposed routes are primarily lower traffic volume roadways that are more conducive to cycling. These roadways may or may not have bicycle improvements. If adopted as part of the bicycle route network, future improvements along designated roadways may include signage, bicycle lanes or shared roadway designations.

Roadways identified as proposed route connectors serve to connect various routes, neighborhoods and other points of interest within the proposed network. These roadways may or may not have bicycle improvements.

Roadways identified as potential future routes may be adopted as part of the bicycle route network pending facility or route designation improvements (i.e. addition of a bicycle lane or shared roadway designation). There may or may not be currently funded improvements along these roadways.

Currently funded improvements that will increase mobility for cyclists and pedestrians are also identified on the route maps. Look for these improvements to improve travel options in the coming years. More information on planned bicycle and pedestrian projects within Leon County can be found through the interactive Needs Plan map application.
