The State of Florida requires local governments to periodically assess the effectiveness of their Comprehensive Plan to adequately address changes in local conditions and changes in the State's policy regarding planning and growth management. The major issues covered in the (2007) report are

  • Implementing Multi-modal Solutions for Sustainability, More Compact Urban Form and Regional Interconnectivity
  • Increasing the Availability of Affordable, Low Income and No-Income Housing
  • Reducing Land Use Conflicts in the Urban Core
  • Improving Regional Groundwater Quality and Wakulla Springs
  • Adopted EAR submitted to FDCA

Campus Master Plan Reviews

Since the campus master planning process began in 1993, Planning Department staff, as well as other City and County agencies, have been monitoring and reviewing the campus master plans, particularly with regard to their probable effects on housing, transportation, and stormwater in the local community. The Florida A&M University Master Plan was last adopted in 2006, the Florida State University Master Plan was last adopted in 2008 and the Tallahassee Community College Master Plan was last adopted in 2009.

Canopy Roads Citizens Committee

The Tallahassee-Leon County Canopy Roads Citizens Committee (CRCC) is an eight-member public advisory group charged with providing recommendations to the City and County Commissions and local regulatory bodies about protecting and enhancing our designated canopy roads.

Hazard Mitigation Planning

The Tallahassee-Leon County Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) is the community's primary planning tool to help minimize the risks to individuals and property from natural and man-made hazards. The LMS is also required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to apply for and receive Federal pre- and post-disaster assistance funds allocated to Leon County.

Neighborhood & Sector Planning

Sector planning is a growth and development tool utilized by cities in Florida and the nation. Size and purpose may vary, but each is an opportunity to guide a community's future. Through a collaborative process, various and diverse stakeholders accomplish this task.

Workforce/Inclusionary Housing

The mission of Transportation Planning is to provide staffing, research, and policy analysis on a wide variety of transportation-related issues for all modes of transportation throughout the Tallahassee-Leon County region.
