About Palmer Munroe Teen Center
For years, the Tallahassee community has been asked to provide a place dedicated to teen youth development; a place dedicated to serving some of our most vulnerable youth; a place for teens to expand their opportunities, learn about social responsibility, civic awareness and be gently guided through a restorative justice program. In August 2010, the Palmer Munroe Teen Center opened its doors as the first teen center in Tallahassee, Florida. A collaboration between the City of Tallahassee, Leon County, Leon County Schools, and the Department of Juvenile Justice, the Palmer Munroe Teen Center offers a unique blend of educational classes, workshops, programs and recreation activities for youth. The Center also serves as a safe, productive oriented haven for many area youth.
The Teen Center will be open during the summer from 2:00pm to 8:00pm on Monday through Saturday. Throughout the school year, the Teen Center offers a number of educational, outreach, and recreational programs for teens.
The Teen Center offers:
- Contemporary Dance meets Mondays, 5:00 - 7:00pm
- Teen Actor's Guild meets Tuesdays, 4:00 - 6:00pm
- Teen Top Chef meets Wednesdays, 5:30 - 7:30pm
- Checkmate Chess Club meets Thursdays, 4:00 - 6:00pm
- A music studio for teens to learn to edit, record, and produce their own music.
- Cyber Lounge where teens can surf the Internet, read, play board games or just chillax.
- Community Connections program that's focused on reconnecting youth with their community by teaching them how to make positive choices and give back to the community.
- An academic tutoring during the school year.
- A budding basketball team.
The Teen Center also offers computer instruction. We will also employ several teens this summer! The Teen Center also serves as a daily safe haven for many youth in our area. We have a host of programs and opportunities to share with parents and teens!
