Severe Weather Sparks Two Morning Structure Fires

On June 21, the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) responded to two morning structure fires as severe weather impacted the area. The initial fire was dispatched at 9:04 a.m. in the 2400 block of Tippecanoe Ridge. TFD units arrived on scene and found smoke coming from a residential structure. Crews made entry into the residence and found fire in the attic. TFD personnel quickly attacked the fire and searched the home for any occupants. TFD determined that no one was inside the structure at the time of the fire. There were no reported injuries on scene. The cause of the fire appears to have been a lightning strike. TFD was assisted on scene by the Tallahassee Police Department and Leon County EMS.
The second structure fire came in at 9:50 a.m. in the 3700 block of Houston Road. TFD crews arrived on scene to find heavy fire coming from a residential structure. TFD was able to get the fire under control and check for any occupants. There were no injuries reported on scene. The cause of the fire appears to have been a lightning strike. TFD was assisted on scene by the Leon County Sheriff's Office, Leon County EMS and Talquin Electric Cooperative.
