Apartment Fire on West Tharpe Street Causes $15,000 in Damages
December 02, 2021
On Dec. 2, the Tallahassee Fire Department (TFD) was dispatched to a fire at an apartment complex in the 2700 block of West Tharpe Street. One adult occupant woke up to smoke in the upstairs bedroom, called 911 and confirmed he was the only person home as he left the unit. Responding units found smoke and flames in the upstairs bedroom and quickly extinguished the fire. Crews worked to evacuate the smoke and ensured the fire did not spread to adjoining units.
No injuries were reported, and a dog was rescued during the search. Damages were estimated at $15,000. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature.
TFD was assisted on scene by Tallahassee Police Department, City of Tallahassee Utilities, Leon County EMS and the Red Cross.
