Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters
September 28, 2021
As you drive around Tallahassee this weekend, you may notice red lights illuminating some of our City of Tallahassee Fire Stations. TFD will be participating in Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters, hosted by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
This recognition is part of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, the official national tribute to firefighters who died in the line of duty during the previous year. As dusk turns to dark, landmarks, homes, fire service organizations and businesses across the country will light up in red to honor fallen firefighters and their families as part of the 40th annual memorial weekend.
This year, the memorial holds particularly special meaning to the members of TFD. Engineer Jeffrey Atkinson, who passed away in 2017, will be remembered as part of the 2020 Roll of Honor.
The following TFD stations will participate in Light the Night from Oct. 1-3:
- Station 1, 327 North Adams Street
- Station 2, 2805 Sharer Road
- Station 3, 3005 South Monroe Street
- Station 4, 2899 West Pensacola Street
- Station 9, 3209 Thomasville Road
- Station 15, 1445 Bannerman Road
- Station 16, 913 Easterwood Drive
Residents can take part in this national tribute by using red outdoor lights at home this weekend. To learn more about TFD events, connect with the department via its Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts.
