StarMetro Offers Free Rides for Dump the Pump Day
Save Money and Reduce Carbon Emissions on June 15
June 14, 2017
This Thursday, June 15, StarMetro will celebrate National Dump the Pump Day by offering fare free rides on all fixed routes. This nationally recognized day is designed to encourage the use of public transportation and promote its many benefits.
Each day, StarMetro provides about 10,000 trips to citizens, helping them get to work, school, appointments and more. To help riders plan their trip, StarMetro offers real-time bus location information and trip planning features through DigiTally, the City of Tallahassee’s free app.
StarMetro also strives to make the commuting experience enjoyable by offering free Wi-Fi on all buses, as well as at C.K. Steele Plaza. Instead of focusing on traffic, riders can read the news, update social media or catch up on work.
Public transportation is a vital community resource. Per the American Public Transportation Association, a public transportation system helps make a community economically prosperous and competitive. Every $1 invested in public transportation generates approximately $4 in economic returns.
Additionally, public transportation helps the environment. Buses use 8.7 percent less energy per passenger mile than a typical automobile. One person with a 20-mile round-trip commute who switches from driving to public transit can reduce his/her daily carbon emissions by 20 pounds.
