Because of recent court rulings hindering the City's ability to rely on state statutes to address noise issues, the City has been in the process of collecting data and drafting a local noise ordinance that will stand up to constitutional scrutiny. The proposed ordinance would allow the Tallahassee Police Department to issue warnings, citations, and regulate special events for noise that exceeds certain decibel levels. The proposed ordinance is still in draft form and the City is taking public comments relating to the ordinance language. A number of public meetings will also be held prior to finalizing the ordinance, and presentation to the City Commission in the Fall of 2013.
