Training and Workforce Development
Workforce development is key to running a successful organization. The City's training program emphasizes basic management theory and practical application of these principles in public sector environments.
While there are courses presented to all employees, the program, Freshen Your Intellect (FYI), had its initial focus on supervisory training and is centered around nine training and development competencies. These competencies are intended to identify basic managerial skills, knowledge, abilities, and behaviors that supervisors should have to perform their work successfully. The Leadership Skills Certification Program includes the Basic Skills for Supervisors Program (BS2P), City Certified Supervisor Program (CCS) and the Senior City Certified Supervisor Program (SCCS).
Leaders recognize that a better-trained workforce improves performance, and investing in employee learning and development is critical to achieving success. The learning function is being run like any other business function with increased attention to operational efficiency, accountability, and connection to organizational values.
