Sustainability - Sustainable YOU Conference
The City continues to make sustainable decisions that lessen its environmental impact and create healthier lifestyle options for its residents. Here is how Sustainable YOU 2014 was even greener:
Conference Mobile App
The City greatly reduced the amount of paper used for the conference by providing information through the conference app. Printed material was available in very limited quantities.
To further green the conference and reduce its carbon footprint, one of the plenary sessions was conducted through a video conference, and the workshops were available via live webcast.
Ecofriendly Conference Supplies
A great effort was made to use green supplies for all conference materials, including ecofriendly conference badges and recycled-content paper for the limited supply of printed conference materials. The City's Environmental Policy and Energy Resources (EPER) booth distributed reusable lunch bags and shopping bags for conference guests to take home.
Shuttling to and from the conference hotel was available via electric vehicles.
Four tours, highlighting the area's green attractions, businesses, and organizations, were offered to conference guests.
All conference meals incorporated sustainable practices, such as using reusable tableware, composting food scraps, and serving local food where available.
Carbon Neutral Event
The City off-set its carbon emissions associated with hosting the conference and encouraged conference attendees to go carbon neutral too through the Community Carbon Fund.
The conference venue, the Turnbull Conference Center, is a LEED Silver-certified building.
The conference hotel, Four Points by Sheraton, is also built to green standards and is a designated Florida Green Lodging facility.
