Emergency Home Repair Program

Small houseThe goal of the Emergency Home Repair Program (EHRP) is to improve the living conditions of low-income homeowners by removing health and safety hazards and/or architectural barriers from their homes.

What is the Emergency Home Repair Program?
The Emergency Home Repair Program (EHRP) is designed to make emergency repairs and accessibility improvements to homes owned and occupied by income-eligible persons. Typical repairs that may be performed with EHRP funds include:

Client Responsibility:
Clients must meet income and ownership eligibility criteria to receive emergency repairs.
Generally, total household income cannot exceed 50% of the area median income, adjusted for family size, as defined by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Income limits are slightly higher for households with a disabled resident.)
Applicants must demonstrate proof of income.

To receive repair work, the applicant must demonstrate ownership of the unit and it must be his or her primary residence.

NOTE:
There are several types of repairs not provided through this program. Emergency Home Repair is not "remodeling" or "home maintenance." Its purpose is to remove health and safety hazards, and improve accessibility by installing wheelchair ramps, grab bars, etc. The maximum cost per unit may not exceed $10,000. Repairs average approximately $4,000 per unit.
