Thursday, 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Short lecture style courses on various topics for anyone interested in personal, intellectual and cultural enrichment. Classes range from one day to 10 weeks. Suggested donation: $2 per class. See Special Events for current class schedule.

Discussion

Book Discussion Group
1st and 3rd Tuesday, 10:00 - 12:00n

Participants share interests and information with others who enjoy reading. Book topics range from romance, mystery and poetry to genealogy and self-help. Pre-reading is not necessary and presentations are strictly volunteer. New members welcome any time. Suggested donation: $1 per class.

Round Table Discussion Group
1st and 3rd Friday, 10:00 - 11:30am

Provides a dialogue of topics and concerns for, and introduced by, group members. The colloquium is organized to allow equal time for presentation and feedback from others. Guest speakers at times. New members always welcome. Suggested donation: $1 per class.

Current Events Discussion Group
2nd and 4th Friday, 11:00am - 12:00n

Group focuses on current topics, breaking news or issues that may be on the cutting edge. Effort is made to seek and present the facts, but diverse opinions or views are considered stimulating. Leadership for each discussion rotates on a voluntary basis. New members welcome any time. Suggested donation: $1 per class.

Creative Writing

Writing for a Purpose
Thursday, 2:30 - 3:30pm

An informal class setting provides tips on writing and publishing memoirs. Suggested donation: $2 per class.

Writer's Workshop
Thursday, 7:00 - 9:00pm

Informal and unstructured, writers meet to critique each other's work. Open to all levels of writers. Suggested donation: $1 per class.

Education & Leisure LearningLanguages

Learn and/or refresh your language skills while exploring a different culture. New and novice students welcome. Suggested Donation: $2 per class.

Senior Computer Classes
Pre-registration is required. Applications are available at the Senior Center reception desk.

Develop or enhance your computer skills through a variety of eight-week classes that are taught at the TSC in partnership with the Leon County Schools Adult and Community Education. There is typically a waiting list for placement. Prospective students will be notified by phone when a class is available.

Introduction to Email
A foundation for learning how to use email. Subjects include creating an email account, sending and receiving emails and opening attachments.

Introduction to Keyboarding
Practice using the keyboard, mouse and special keys.

For the classes below, prerequisites include Introduction to Keyboarding or teacher approval

Leon County Adult & Community Education PartnershipGetting to Know the Computer
An introduction to computers. Included will be screen savers/wallpaper, games, changing settings and basic computer terminology. Keyboard skills and the ability to use the mouse are required.

Introduction to Word
A foundation for learning to use the Word program for word processing. Included will be how to save and find a file, formatting a document, copying and pasting text.

Introduction to the Internet
A foundation for learning to use the Internet. Subjects include terminology, accessing the World Wide Web, and adding a web page to "my favorites."
