TPD Makes an Arrest in Homicide Investigation (UPDATE)

After conducting a thorough and extensive investigation, the Tallahassee Police Department has made an arrest in the homicide occurring March 31, 2018 in the 1000 block of Basin Street. After interviewing witnesses and examining the evidence, investigators with the Violent Crimes Unit were able to obtain a warrant for Jeremy Newkirk for Second Degree Murder and he was arrested by TPD officers last night at 1019 Dewey Street. Additionally, Mr. Newkirk was charged with Possession of Cannabis With Intent to Sell during the arrest and was transported to the Leon County Detention Facility for processing.

Jeremy R. Newkirk DOB: 3/22/1990
Charges:
Second Degree Murder pursuant to Florida Statute 782.04(2).
Possession of Cannabis With Intent to Sell within 1000 feet of a Place of Worship pursuant to Florida Statute 893.13 (1)(e)2.
Update: April 2, 2018
As the Tallahassee Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit continues to investigate this case, they are releasing the name of the victim. Sadly the victim has passed away from their injuries.

The Tallahassee Police Department is currently investigating a shooting which occurred near Basin Street and West Tennessee Street, around 5 a.m. this morning. Prior to officers’ arrival the victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
