City Service Changes for Martin Luther King Jr. Day Holiday
January 09, 2018
The City of Tallahassee’s administrative offices will be closed in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Monday, Jan. 15. Following are schedule changes for the week of January 14-20 for solid waste customers living inside the Tallahassee city limits, StarMetro, the Animal Service Center and City-run community centers.
Solid Waste Schedule Changes
During the holiday week, all residential solid waste customers will receive service one day later than their regularly scheduled service (see changes below). The Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday will impact red week customers for garbage, recycle, bulky items and yard waste pickup.
- Monday customers ► Tuesday, Jan. 16
- Tuesday customers ► Wednesday, Jan. 17
- Wednesday customers ► Thursday, Jan. 18
- Thursday customers ► Friday, Jan. 19
- Friday customers ► Saturday, Jan. 20
If using a fireplace this winter, be careful when disposing of the ashes. Be sure they are completely extinguished and cool before placing them in the garbage. Dumping hot ashes may damage the trash bin and cause a fire in your barrel or on the waste collection truck.
Garbage and recycling containers should both be rolled to the curb for pickup by 6:30 a.m. on collection day, with both containers returned to the home no later than the day after collection. Customers are reminded to separate yard waste piles from any bulky items set out for pickup. Customers needing more information may view solid waste schedules at Talgov.com/YOU or contact City of Tallahassee Utilities at 891-4968.
StarMetro Schedule Changes
StarMetro, the City's mass transit system, will change its operations for the holiday. Fixed routes will operate on a Saturday service schedule with night service. Dial-A-Ride and CTC services will operate on a Saturday service schedule.
For more information, visit Talgov.com/StarMetro or call StarMetro at 891-5200.

The Animal Service Center (ASC) is normally closed to the public on Mondays, and thus the facility will be closed on January 15. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday, Jan. 16, with the center opening at 10:30 a.m. Customers needing more information, including photos of animals available for adoption, may visit Talgov.com/animals or contact the Animal Service Center at 891-2950.
City Animal Control will be available for emergency situations only on Monday, Jan. 15, and can be reached via the Consolidated Dispatch Agency at 606-5800.
