Couple Arrested in Drug Distribution Case
December 9, 2009
Yesterday, the Tallahassee Police Department’s Special Investigations Section served a narcotics search warrant at 1306 Francisco Drive. Inside the home investigators discovered an elaborate marijuana cultivation operation with over 80 marijuana plants growing inside the home. Additionally, over 1.5 pounds of dried marijuana, ready for distribution was seized. The estimated street value of the marijuana is almost $250,000.
The investigation began as a result of a tip received from a citizen. The Special Investigations Section utilized their investigative resources, ultimately obtaining a search warrant for the residence. The owners of the home, Charles and Anne Wygant, were arrested without incident.
Lt. Joani Chase, Assistant Division Commander, said, “We are not surprised to find an indoor grow in a residential area. What does surprise us is the size, scope and complexity of the operation. One of our biggest concerns is that many times violence follows the illegal drug business. There is always the possibility that an innocent child or adult could be harmed.”
The Tallahassee Police Department is committed to keeping citizens safe.
