Updated - City Responding to Storm

City Logo December 2, 2009

Earlier this afternoon, an online News Release posted on Talgov.com included information incorrectly pulled from a 2008 release, regarding weather impacts. Today's News Release should have included no references to Lake Talquin or downstream residents, and was corrected at approximately 3:45 p.m. We apologize for the error.

City Responding to Storm

The City of Tallahassee's Emergency Management Team continues to monitor the current weather situation, and City departments are responding as needed. The primary concern is very heavy rain received earlier today, with a slight chance for additional rainfall this evening.

Electric service - the Electric Utility reported one major power outage at 4:08 p.m., affecting sections in the northeast area of Tallahassee (approximate area between the Thomasville Road/Capital Circle Northeast area west along Timberlane Road to North Meridian Road). The outage was caused by a tree that fell on lines on Timberlane School Road. City of Tallahassee Electric Utility crews responded and were able to restore power to all customers by 5:02 p.m. Currently only four customers are without power, due to downed lines. City electric customers may report power outages to 891-4YOU (4968).

Street flooding - all streets affected earlier by temporary flooding are open. Two streets remain closed due to high water - Weems Road at the railroad crossing, and Creek Road between Wheatley Road and Bunche Avenue. Lonnbladh Road between Eddie Road and Greer Road has been reopened. Within the Tallahassee city limits, citizens may report flooded streets and downed trees to the Public Works Operations Division at 891-5300 (weekdays 8 a.m.-5 p.m.; after hours, contact the Tallahassee Police Department at 891-4200 to report flooded streets and downed trees).

A word of caution to motorists who must be on the road during heavy rain - do not drive on streets where water covers the surface. There could be deep water or potholes caused by the flooding. Police officers will issue citations to drivers ignoring road barricades.
