Neighborhood Recognition Program
Application Deadline May 1
April 17, 2014
Application deadline set for Thursday, May 1 - With only two weeks left before the Neighborhood Recognition Program entry deadline, the Council of Neighborhood Associations (CONA), Leon County and the City of Tallahassee are encouraging residents to complete and submit their applications before or on the day of deadline, which is Thursday, May 1, 2014.
Leon County and the City of Tallahassee will respectively recognize two outstanding Small Neighborhoods of the Year (200 or fewer homes) and two Large Neighborhoods of the Year (more than 200 homes), and the County will also honor one Unincorporated Area Neighborhood of the Year (outside the city limits). The winning neighborhoods will receive a sign to display at their entrance and bragging rights as a 2014 Neighborhood of the Year.
The County and City are also accepting nominations for the 2014 Neighbor of the Year. These individuals must have exemplified the characteristics of leadership and servitude in making contributions to their community.
Winners of the Neighborhood of the Year and Neighbor of the Year awards will be announced on Monday, June 9, 2014, at CONA's 34th Annual Awards Reception, where CONA will also present its annual Public Servant of the Year and Business Neighbor of the Year awards.
This year's program kicked off at the Lincoln Neighborhood Service Center with two of the 2013 winners as hosts for the March event – Levy Park Neighborhood Association, the City's 2013 Large Neighborhood of the Year; and Callen Neighborhood Association, the County's 2013 Small Neighborhood of the Year.
CONA President Leroy Peck, Leon County Board of County Commissioners Chairman Kristin Dozier and City of Tallahassee Mayor John R. Marks were on hand at the kick-off event to stress the importance of having caring and compassionate neighbors in the community.
Applications and nomination forms for the 2014 Neighborhood Recognition Program are available online at www.LeonCountyFL.gov for the County, at Talgov.com for the City and at econa.org for CONA.
