New Metered Spaces Provide Additional Parking Options
September 18, 2013
Madison Street is bustling. College Town celebrated its grand opening last week, and several other new developments are under way. This former warehouse row a block north of Gaines Street is adding to Tallahassee’s vibrancy with entertainment, shopping, dining and housing. With that, though, comes an increase in vehicle traffic.
To help patrons access the new businesses, visit friends and enjoy a little retail therapy, 60 new public parking spaces are now available on Madison Street near Woodward Avenue. Previously, there was no official public parking anywhere on the corridor.
Of these new public parking spaces, 53 will use a new Pay-By-Space system, which will become operational on Monday, Sept. 23. It’s simple to park in a Pay-By-Space spot.
- Park your vehicle.
- Note your parking space number and head to one of the three pay stations.
- Pay using cash or card at the pay station.
- Keep your receipt.
You do not need to return to your vehicle and display anything on your dash.
Each Pay-By-Space spot costs 50 cents per hour, with a 2 hour maximum time limit. If you are paying with a card, there is a $1 minimum purchase, which will give you the full 2 hour allotment. Parking enforcement for these spaces will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 6 p.m. on weekdays only.
The remaining seven new spaces use traditional meters, with a meter on a pole in front of each spot. These meters only accept change and are currently active. The traditional metered spaces also cost 50 cents per hour and have a 2 hour maximum time limit. Patrons using the spaces between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays need to pay the meter or risk getting a ticket.
