Give a Furry Friend a Forever Home for Free
International Homeless Animals’ Day
August 14, 2013
This Saturday and Sunday, the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (ASC) will offer free animal adoptions in recognition of International Homeless Animals’ Day. The ASC is open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.
“This event gives people a chance to give a homeless animal a forever home," said Erika Leckington, ASC director. "By providing free adoptions, we hope to find homes for all of our 108 adoptable animals.”
This weekend’s adoption special includes vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, a small bag of food, adoption packet, collar and tag. All spayed and neutered animals are free for adoption. Animals in need of spaying or neutering require a deposit, which is fully refundable with proof of the surgery. Please make sure you bring a leash if you are adopting a dog or a carrier if adopting a cat so they can be safely and securely transported home.
The International Society for Animal Rights (ISAR) introduced International Homeless Animals’ Day in 1992 with hopes of informing the public of the critical problem of pet overpopulation. Since the conception of International Homeless Animals’ Day, ISAR has reserved the third Saturday of August to promote new campaigns, programs and ideas on the number one solution to the pet overpopulation epidemic: spay/neuter.
The Animal Service Center, located adjacent to Tom Brown Park at 1125 Easterwood Drive, is operated and maintained by the City’s Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department.
