Calling All Cat Lovers…Here Kitty, Kitty!
ASC Offers Free Rabies and Identification Clinic for Cats
April 04, 2013
The Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center (ASC) is providing a rabies and identification clinic exclusively for cats on Saturday, April 6, from 9 - 11 a.m. At the clinic, the ASC will provide free microchips, rabies vaccinations, collars and personalized ID tags at no cost! Be the Solution Inc. will also be providing spay/neuter vouchers to attendees.
This is the purr-fect opportunity for owners of finicky felines to bring their pet in for these services without worry of dogs and other animals startling their cat.
Almost 70 percent of the 8,922 animals the ASC received last year were stray animals without a collar and tag, and only five percent of cats were returned to their original owner. Through efforts like this weekend's rabies and ID clinic, the ASC aims to prevent more lost pets from entering the shelter, as animals with a collar and ID tag are more likely to be returned home by the finder than turned into the shelter.
City of Tallahassee Animal Control reminds you that your free roaming cat is required by ordinance to be spayed or neutered, microchipped and wear its rabies tag. This clinic is an easy way to come into compliance without extra costs.
The ASC is offering this free clinic thanks to a generous grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. While the event is free, a suggested donation of $10 will help to cover the cost of future clinics. Photo ID and proof of Leon County residency are required, and cats must be secured in a carrier.
The Animal Service Center, located adjacent to Tom Brown Park at 1125 Easterwood Drive, is operated and maintained by the City's Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department.
