SUBJECT/TITLE: Acceptance of Jean Rich Murray Living Trust for Appropriation in Animal Service Center Donation Account
TARGET ISSUE:

STATEMENT OF ISSUE

The Animal Service Center has been selected as one of beneficiaries of the Jean Rich Murray Living Trust in the amount of $10,000.

In order to provide for veterinary (Animal Health), facility, equipment and other operational needs at the Tallahassee Leon Community Animal Service Center, Animal Services requests that the Jean Rich Murray Living Trust, in the amount of $10,000, be accepted for distribution and approved for appropriation into the Animal Shelter Donations Account.

RECOMMENDED ACTION

Option 1 - Authorize acceptance of the Jean Rich Murray Living Trust, in the amount of $10,000 for appropriation into the Animal Shelter Donations Account #115-0-366005 for the purpose of supporting the Animal Service Center’s operational needs.

FISCAL IMPACT

There is currently $14,709 in the Shelter Donations Account. Accepting the $10,000 Trust to be appropriated in the Animal Shelter Donations Account # 115-0-366005 will increase the current balance to $24,709. The Office of Budget and Policy and the City Attorney’s office have reviewed this agenda item and concur with this recommendation.

HISTORY/FACTS & ISSUES

On June 25, 2003, the City Commission approved the creation of the Animal Shelter Donations Account #115-0-366005 and the establishment of a work order to receive donations made directly to the Animal Service Center (ASC). The purpose of this account is to provide a way for the community to assist the shelter by donating funds to help offset costs for operations and maintenance of the facility, replacement and repair of equipment and up keep of the grounds. Donations are also used to enhance the Center’s animal care, foster, adoption, and transfer programs and services. The Animal Shelter Donations Account is the vehicle for the City to accept donations on behalf of the Animal Service Center.
