SUBJECT/TITLE: Appointment of Citizens to Tallahassee-Leon County Architectural Review Board

STATEMENT OF ISSUE

The term of Tallahassee-Leon County Architectural Review Board (ARB) member J. Terry Peterson expires in June 2009, and it is requested that Mr. Peterson be reappointed to serve a second term. It is also requested to appoint Mr. J. Piers Rawling to fill vacant seat #2. The applicant meets the criteria to serve on this seat.

The purpose of the ARB is to preserve the distinctive character of the historical areas and other specific structures and landmarks identified by the City or County Commissions. To accomplish this purpose, the ARB shall approve, disapprove, or require modification to plans for buildings to be erected, constructed, altered, renovated, moved or razed, as they apply to the Historic Preservation Overlay Zoning District as described in Section 10-319(a)(2), Tallahassee Land Development Code. It may also assist the Planning Commission in determining areas suitable for the location into the Overlay Zoning District.

All members of the ARB shall be residents or property owners in the City of Tallahassee and/or Leon County. The members of the ARB shall be selected from the following classifications: a) Four members who are owners of property zoned Historic Preservation Overlay (HPO) (two appointed by City, two appointed by County); b) Two members who are members of the American Institute of Architects and whose principal place of business or residence is Leon County (one appointed by the City, one appointed by the County); c) Two members from the Historic Tallahassee Preservation Board (one appointed by the City, one appointed by the County); d) the Chairperson of the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Commission; and e) the Director of the Tallahassee-Leon County Planning Department.

APPOINT: J. Piers Rawling (Owner of Property Zoned HPO)
