STATEMENT OF ISSUE

With budget discussions underway, the City Commission meeting schedule has been expanded to incorporate the regular business of the city and the additional meetings required to address both the current fiscal year and 2010 budgets. In May, six meetings are scheduled with the Commission and in June, eight meetings are currently on the schedule (see attached schedule). The City Commission is scheduled to hold a regular meeting on July 1, 2009. A Final Budget Decisions Workshop is scheduled for July 2, 2009. There are several Commission calendar conflicts that will prevent a sufficient quorum for the July 8, 2009 regular meeting. Therefore, City Commission is requested to approve cancellation of the July 8 meeting and allow the July 2, 2009 Final Budget Decisions Workshop to be the last meeting of the City Commission prior to the Summer Break. The regular meeting schedule for the Commission will resume with the August 19, 2009, City Commission meeting.

Additionally, there is a CRA Board Meeting Scheduled for July 8, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. If the Commission approves canceling the Commission meeting for July 8, an item will be taken before the Tallahassee Community Redevelopment Agenda (CRA) Board on May 18, 2009 requesting that the Board cancel it’s July 8 meeting.

RECOMMENDED ACTION

Approve recommended changes to the 2009 City Commission meeting schedule.
